Testing a New Business or Market Before Committing Capital.

Working out what would have to be true before spending serious time or money.

The problem

The opportunity looked compelling at headline level, but enthusiasm was doing more work than evidence. The market, customer need, economics, route to market, operating requirements and competitive response all contained assumptions that could materially change whether the idea was worth pursuing.

What I did

I broke the opportunity into the assumptions that mattered most. I assessed market structure, customer demand, commercial model, likely economics, operating requirements, partners and risks, then sequenced the cheapest and fastest ways to test the most important uncertainties first. The work was designed around decision gates rather than producing a large report that still left the original question unanswered.

What changed

A promising idea became a structured opportunity with clear assumptions, tests and reasons to proceed, change direction or stop.
